Week 4 Tip: Making a Pivot

By: David Meine

| January 25, 2022

This week’s tip is going to be a little different than our previous tips, but it is a very important one! This is something Carla and I have learned throughout our years in business…and it works with health goals, too.

Our tip for this week is about making a pivot.

What exactly does that mean?

Making a pivot means that when something isn’t going the way that we want, whether it’s in business, with our health, or in our family, you need to pivot. You need to make a change. Sometimes it’s an abrupt change, and sometimes it’s just something small that will get you to where you want to go. We all have goals and things we’re working on in our lives. To get there, we have to analyze how things are going, and then be willing to pivot – or change – when we realize it’s necessary.

Simple changes, like drinking more water or adding more greens, are fairly easy things to do. Bigger pivots, like the one we’re announcing today, are a little more difficult.

Our Big Pivot

Today we made a substantial pivot in our business. We decided to change the name of our company from Eating to Live to More Than Healthy™. Some of you may have already noticed this change on our social media sites. These are hard changes to make, and we hope you’ll continue to follow us through this important pivot.

We’ll continue to show up here and do 52 weeks of resolutions and tips. We are also planning to add retreats and boot camps and other fun additions to our business. We’re excited to make these changes, and for you to join us on this journey.

The Eating to Live Story

Almost 2 years ago, when the world was being asked to shelter in place, I decided to write a book about my health journey. Carla was in school to become a Functional Nutrition Counselor. The two went hand in hand, and we decided to start a company in order to help others as well.

Carla, a gifted cook, was constantly experimenting with our menus, trying to come up with meals that were gluten, dairy, and sugar-free. This was necessary to help me heal my gut and get my health back. But it was a challenge! One day as she was serving up our lunch that fit my necessary health criteria, she said, “I don’t know if this is going to be very good, you might not like it!”

I looked at her and said, “I’m going to love it, because I’ve changed! I’m eating to live instead of living to eat!”

She looked at me for a minute and then declared, “That’s it! That’s the name of our company!” We immediately purchased the domain name, and the rest is history.

Making the Pivot from Eating to Live

Everything was going great. Our book, Eating to Live: Unlocking the Leaky Gut Code, was published and became a best-seller on Amazon. Then last year, while brainstorming ways to help even more people achieve optimal health, we came up with the idea of a Full Year of Resolutions.

As the idea took shape, it became apparent that our name no longer fit what we were doing. Yes, eating is a big part of it, a really important part. But there is so much more! Like sleep, for example – we teach that sleep is the foundation of health.

There are SO many important aspects to true wellness and optimal health. The name Eating to Live no longer fits what our mission really is. Our WHY has evolved, becoming, “We coach individuals to get more from life with optimal health.” To match our expanded why, we needed to make a pivot.

This was a huge pivot for us. We’d invested so much time and money into our Eating to Live business, our website, and all of our content. So we slept on it. The next morning, Carla and I both agreed we felt great about our new company name and the other changes this would entail.

More Than Healthy

These three words really describe what we’re doing. This new name resonates with both of us, because everything we’re doing is with the goal to create things that make your life MORE than healthy. That’s because when you change your health, you change every aspect of your life!

Think about it…When you feel good and have substantial energy, you participate in all facets of your life differently. When you’re healthy, you’re more engaged in your relationships. You’re participating fully in life! You’re more productive at work and at home. When you don’t feel good, you sit on the sidelines. You miss out!

When you change your health, you change every area of your life.

This is My Story

I’m truly an example of this. Just five years ago, we weren’t sure I’d even still be alive. Today, after a series of truly life-changing pivots, we’ve just celebrated our 20th anniversary with a wonderful two-week trip. We were super active every day, playing hours of pickleball, deep-sea fishing, and playing on the beach. And, I was able to do it all pain-free!! We are well on our way to our goal of celebrating our 50th anniversary together as a healthy, active couple!

This feels like a miracle to us, but it’s because of many changes – or pivots – that I’ve made in my life over these past years. Not all of the changes I made were easy, but many of them are! And that’s why we came up with this concept to share something with you every week that’s either worked for us, or we’ve had to make pivots to adapt and make work for us.

This week, ask yourself:

What pivots can you make in your own life that will eventually lead to life-changing results?

We wish you a wonderful week! We hope that you’ll learn how to make pivots that will lead to dramatic changes in your health like it’s done for us.

Much love,

David and Carla Meine
