Many people have never cooked crab legs and think it’s really difficult. The crazy thing is it’s probably the simplest recipe I have on this page and the easiest to do. I’ve been cooking crab legs since my Sea Galley days over 35 years ago. So don’t be afraid of making crab legs. You really can’t mess them up (unless you overcook them, and I’m going to tell you how not to do that).
Ingredients
King Crab Legs – (I get two for each of us as I like to use them in a salad the next day)
4 lemon wedges
Melted butter (if you are on level 4, if not just skip the butter)
Directions
The only really challenging part of making crab legs is scoring them ahead of time. I take them out of the freezer about an hour before I’m going to cook them. Then I take a knife and score them 4-5 times on each leg so it makes it easier to get them out when you serve them. If you don’t know what scoring is here’s a video.
I bring to boil a large pot of water while I’m scoring the crab legs. Once it’s boiling I add the legs to the water and let it cook 8 minutes. The legs are already cooked so all you are trying to do is to heat them up. Remove them from the water. To check if they are hot enough just stick your finger into one of the slits you made in the shell and you’ll be able to tell if it’s hot (if it needs to cook longer you can simply throw it back in the water). Then serve them with a lemon wedge.
